Ear Slap Strike

An Ear Slap Strike is a surprisingly simple move that can devastate
an attacker.

A SELF DEFENSE PROBLEM from Self Defense Moves: You are being grabbed from the front standing, or from someone seated next to you. The attacker is a lot heavier and stronger than you. Immediately, you feel the threat to your personal safety and want to get away. You need to create an attack on the offender that will generate enough pain to allow you an opportunity to get away safely.

What you need is a basic technique from self defense moves that is both simple and fast to learn, requires a minimum of practice, and will be easy to execute under the stress of an actual assault.

ONE POSSIBLE SOLUTION: A surprisingly simple skill that has devastating potential is anEar Slap Strike. This physical technique has reliable results. It has a lot of shock and pain value, as well as being a well kept secret. You don't need special talents or abilities to use the motor skills you already possess. So this is a great technique in basic self defense moves that is also easy to learn. An Ear Slap Strike can be used while standing, seated in a car, or executed with your back to the ground.

Ear Slap Strike Exercise

INSTRUCTION GUIDELINES: To learn the ear slap, begin by holding both your hands out in front of you at about face height. Position your hands out flat in a vertical position, as if you were going to begin clapping.

Your left hand will be your target. Space your hands about 8 to 12 inches apart to begin. The object is to clap the right hand to the target (left hand) and generate a loud clapping sound.

Use the trunk of your body and twist in a rocking motion to generate some circular energy into the target. This little whipping motion can add power to the delivery of this strike.
You can learn by using a mirror to monitor yourself as you perform this movement. Keeping your arm, wrist and hand loose and relaxed until you strike the target hand will make executing this physical technique very fast. This will increase your speed while tense muscles will slow down your execution.
With a little practice, you will be able to strike a target in less than half a second!

Baby Afreen passes away in Bangalore hospital

Baby Afreen
Bangalore: The three-month-old baby, Afreen, who was battered by her father for being born a girl, passed away on Wednesday after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Doctors at the Vani Vilas hospital in Bangalore where Baby Afreen was being treated said that the infant had a cardiac arrest at 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday. They tried cardiac resuscitation to revive the baby but, after several futile attempts, the baby was finally declared dead at 11:10 a.m.

Earlier in the morning, reports said that the infant’s condition had deteriorated after she slipped into a semi-comatose state.
"She had two more convulsions yesterday evening," Resident Medical Superintendent (RMS) Somegowda of the hospital in Bangalore where she is being treated, said.
The medical superintendent informed that the baby had a quickened rate of respiration of 30-40 per minute (the normal rate is 20-25 per minute).
On Tuesday, Afreen was still on ventilator and she had blood transfusion. Doctors said that had Baby Afreen lived she could have suffered from brain damage and might even have been deformed.
Umar Farook, the monster father of the baby, confessed to cops that he had tried to kill the infant as he had wanted a boy and not a girl. The man has been arrested.

Jogging and Walking Safety Tips: Basic and Advance

In view of recent attacks on joggers, everyone that is currently enjoying that sport needs to be aware of certain crime prevention tips geared exclusively to them. These safety tips can apply to anyone that is on the street walking, jogging, or running.
Many joggers have the mistaken idea that because they usually do not carry large sums of money with them as they jog, they are not likely candidates for an attack. Unfortunately, that is not true. They must always be aware of their surroundings and take appropriate action to protect themselves.
One of the most serious problems for joggers is not paying attention. They become so preoccupied with the physical act of jogging that they lose touch with the moment. They are so busy concentrating on how much further they have to go and on putting one foot in front of the next, that they don't pay attention to what is happening right here, right now.
When they allow themselves to become preoccupied, they have jeopardized their security. When they are not paying attention, it gives the would-be attacker the opportunity to surprise them. Being alert and being aware is vital at all times.
First-up are Basic Safety Tips for Jogging:
* Jog with a known companion
* Jog in a familiar area
* Do not jog in a secluded area
* Do not jog after dark
* Jog facing the traffic
* If followed, go to the nearest house and call the police
* Wear bright colored clothing to improve your visibility
* Carry a pepper spray or a personal safety alarm device
* Vary your route and pattern of running
* Always be aware of your surroundings. Keep Alert!
* Jog away from bushes where someone could hide
* Take a key with you when you jog. Don't leave your house unlocked. Someone might be watching you and your house to see when it will be empty or unlocked.

Advance Safety Tips for Jogging and Walkers:
* One of the first things men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.
( An extreme example by an orca recently, a female trainer in Florida was drowned by a killer whale that grabbed the woman by her ponytail!)
* Offenders are most likely to attack and rape in the early morning, between 5:00a.m. and 8:30a.m.
* Only 2% of the predators said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year sentence, but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years.
* If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn't worth it because it will be time-consuming.
* The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!
* Offenders look for women on their cell phone, searching through their purse, or doing other activities while walking because they are off-guard and can be easily overpowered.
* The number one place women are abducted from or attacked is from grocery store parking lots. Number two is office parking lots/garages. Number three is public restrooms.
* The thing about predator men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to another location where they don't have to worry about getting caught.
* If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell, “STOP” or “STAY BACK!”. Most rapists said they'd leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.
* If you carry pepper spray (this instructor is a huge advocate of it), yell, "I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY" while holding it out can be a powerful deterrent.
* Lastly, not all male joggers are running for their health, so always be careful.

Punjab minister Bibi Jagir Kaur gets 5-year jail term (31 MAR, 2012, 04.46AM IST, VINEY SHARMA,ET BUREAU )

CHANDIGARH: Punjab minister Bibi Jagir Kaur was sentenced to five years imprisonment by a CBI court in Patila on Friday for her role in the mysterious death of her daughter Harpreet Kaur in 2000.
Kaur, the minister for rural water supply & sanitation and defence services, was arrested soon after the judgement was out and sent to judicial custody for 14 days along with three others convicted.
Kaur has been held guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code - Section 120-B (conspiracy), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent), 344 (wrongful confinement for 10 days or more) and 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent of secretly and wrongfully to confine person).
The verdict comes as a major embarrassment for the recently re-elected Akali government which made saving girl child a main issue in its election manifesto. Punjab had one of the worst sex ratios in the country (846:1000) in 2011.
Opposition Congress has hailed the conviction of Kaur, a former president of SGPC that runs all Gurdwaras in state. "Law has ultimately taken its course and the guilty stand punished," Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Captain Amarinder Singh said. "Her conviction has exposed the Akalis and reaffirmed faith of people in judiciary, irrespective of her powerful status."
While Kaur will approach the Punjab & Haryana High Court against the verdict, CBI will fight to get her convicted in murder charge too. If the high court upholds the verdict, it would be almost an end of road for the only woman in the Punjab Cabinet.
The CBI had registered an FIR in the case following Punjab and Haryana High Court's order, after Kamaljeet Singh of Begowal village, approached it accusing Bibi Jagir Kaur of conspiring the murder of Harpreet, his wife. Harpreet had a love affair with Kamaljeet of Begowal village, where Bibi Jagir Kaur runs a dera. The former SGPC chief was against their marriage. According to Kamaljit, he and Harpreet got married secretly and the latter was six-month pregnant when she was murdered at Phagwara.
Just last week, Kamaljit had written to Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, seeking security in view of the upcoming verdict. Several witnesses turned hostile as the case progressed in CBI court. Even complainant Kamaljit turned hostile, only to reaffirm the charges later.
The verdict is seen to send strong message against honour killing. "It was another case of honour killing in Punjab, where the daughter and grand child were killed together. The conviction of a minister has sent a strong message to people,"Prof. Surinder shukla, a political scientist at Panjab University in Chandigarh, said.
Harsimrat Badal, Bhatinda MP and daughter-in-law of Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, had launched 'Nanhi Chhaan' project to empower women and save the girl child before the recently-held assembly polls.
"To curb dwindling sex ratio, zero tolerance will be shown on female foeticide and female infanticide. Besides bringing attitudinal change in people, the party would strictly enforce PNDT Act," reads the Shiromani Akali Dal's election manifesto.

Fighting female foeticide

Ishita Uppal, a student of class X is raising awareness on the need to stop female foeticide.Aaditi Isaac reports

Ishita Uppal, a student of class X, Little FlowerConvent School, Panchkula, Haryana, has taken upon herself the responsibility to raise awareness on the issue of female foeticide by meeting young students and making them take a pledge to help stop the practice.

"I was 10 years old when I first read about female foeticide. I couldn't understand what it was; so I asked my father to explain what it meant. I researched on the internet, saw the statistics and decided to do something about it," says Ishita.

In a span of three years, Ishita inspired 60,000 people to take an oath against the practice. Her efforts were rewarded when in November 2009 she set out on an expedition in seven districts of Haryana and one district of Punjab to deliver lectures on female foeticide and plant trees.

"The skewed sex ratio is a cause for concern. In certain areas in Bihar, for example, one woman is married to two men. Development of our nation has to include the development of women. We have to save the girl child and not look at her as a burden on the family. In order to change the mindset of youngsters, I make them take a pledge against female foeticide and talk to them about treating women with dignity. I conduct road shows and lectures on the importance of stopping the practice of female foeticide. College students also call me to be a part of their initiatives aimed at the welfare of the girl child," she adds.

In 2009, the Chandigarh administration declared her Haryana's ambassador to lead the mission against female foeticide and global warming.

Did she face opposition from her family? "My parents always encouraged me. When I was out on the expedition and missed school, I would take extra classes to cover what I missed," she says.

Ishita wants to become an IAS officer and contribute to the country. She is a finalist at the Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards 2012, which recognises students for their efforts in serving others through community service.
