Delhi Rape Capital: India 3rd in rapes. Woman raped every 20 minutes in India

Delhi is the rape capital of the world.
The latest rape statistics released by the Indian National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has once again put Delhi on top of the shame table with Mumbai is a close second on the list.

Rape cases in India more than doubled between 1990 and 2008, and national crime records show that 228,650 of the 256,329 violent crimes recorded last year had women as victims. The conviction rate for rape cases is 26 per cent.

According to experts only about ten percent of the rapes are reports. The TOI reports, that Delhi registered 568 cases of rape, compared to 218 in Mumbai in 2011 according to NCRB records. In the 2007-2011 period, Delhi topped the chart, followed by Mumbai, Bhopal, Pune and Jaipur.

While there is much chagrin in Bharat and the West over the latest rape in a moving bus–the Western media is silent. The Rape NGOs in America and Europe are silent, and the silence is deafening.
More than ten million Dalit women are raped. While they are untouchable but they are raped.
More than 2000 rape victims in Kashmir have come forward, but their cases are not heard, because the army is the culprit.

India stands third when it comes to rape cases, latest data of the Union Home Ministry suggest. Ahead of India are only the United States and South Africa.
According to the data, 18,359 rape cases were registered in India in the first three quarters of this year while in the US, 93,934 and in South Africa 54,926 rape cases were registered respectively.
According to the data, the incidence of various crime per one lakh population in India are — murder (3), sex offences (4), rape (1.7), serious assault (24.6) robbery and violent theft (2.1), breaking and entering (8.2) and theft of motor cars (7.8).
According to the latest figures released by the Government of India, a woman is now raped in India every 20 minutes. Despite the increase in sexual violence the number of convictions is falling in Bharat.
In the past year there have been a number of high-profile cases which have caused outrage across the nation.
One of the most shocking attacks happened in the state of Haryana where the victim waived her right to anonymity. There Sixteen-year-old Shabnam was gang raped by eight men from her village. Her attackers took videos on their mobile phones.
When Shabnam’s father discovered that the images were being shared around the village he committed suicide out of shame.
But the brave schoolgirl wants the world to know what happened because she says too many victims are either too afraid or too ashamed to speak out.
“I don’t want the sacrifice of my father to be wasted,” she said. “I’ve decided to get them all punished so that whatever happened with me should never happen to anybody else again.”
The rise in sexual assaults in Haryana reflects what is happening in other states across India.
The reasons:
  • A preference for sons and the illegal practice of female infanticide and foeticide have left the state with a badly skewed sex ratio.
  • In Haryana there are just 830 girls per 1,000 boys.
  • Women’s rights campaigner Rishi Kant says the problems are deep rooted within Indian society.
  • “Because of these problems we are facing with female infanticide and foetcide, due to (the fact there are) less girls, young boys are doing all these crimes which are very heinous crimes and they should be booked immediately with a fast track court so that a proper sentence can be given against them.”
  • Campaigners say India’s laws for the protection of women are robust but are demanding better policing and stiffer jail terms.

My views regarding 'GIRLS SAFETY'.!

2 points I want to add here..
Need of hour:
1.Change is required in the mentality of boys.
2.'Awareness among girls 'and this is very important.. girls can waste their time on facebook-social networking sites, can surf internet, can do every thing but she will never  bother herself to search for some self defence videos etc.
The girl in delhi rape case was also a simple girl as we are.. and we think nothing wrong can happen to us..But how are you all so sure about this??
No one knows whats going to happen in future so why are you are not worried for YOUR safety??
Don't you want an independent life???

Delhi rape case was really shocking and i am not able to figure how one can come out of that incident but I know one thing if she would have learnt some techniques then maybe she could have atleast tried..
All rape cases are not same..some are gang rape.. but we still 'WE GIRLS' can make a difference we can atleast fight back..!
Awareness is required in society too but firstly we girls should change our WAY OF THINKING, OUR VIEWPOINT..!
Its really good you are bold, confident but still you need something along with these qualities with which you can fight back..
So, i just want to say my dear readers especially my female friends..We don't know what is going to happen in future so just make yourself ready to face even the worst situation..
Be alert, Be safe.!
We all say normally 'NO ONE CAN TOUCH ME, I WILL DO THIS AND THAT.. bla bla..' But just think what you will do and HOW??
Today i will not give any link regarding self defence videos etc which are already posted on my this blog BECAUSE one thing is very clear to me today NO ONE IS HAVING ANY TIME FOR WATCHING THOSE..now you all are worried, tensed and want to do something regarding these rape cases. But Is this necessary to find a solution to a problem when something bad has badly shaken you..Why can't you try out to figure out the solution earlier in the beginning only???

On the whole i just want to say that PLEASE WAKE UP MY FRIENDS..! Its never too late for doing something good..try to be independent..try to fight back..Its your life..!!

Punish the culprits, says Delhi rape victim

NEW DELHI: The 23-year-old woman who was gangraped four days ago by a bunch of men in a moving bus, wants her tormenters to be punished.

She has been communicating by writing notes to her parents.

"The culprits should be punished," she wrote in one note; in another, she enquired after her male friend who had tried to defend her and was beaten, a doctor at Safdarjung Hospital told IANS.

In one note, the victim asked if the culprits had been arrested; in another, she enquired after her male friend who was beaten up by the six accused. The woman and her male friend were stripped, robbed and then dumped by the roadside by the six men in a private bus. The torture lasted about 40 minutes.

The four men arrested for having tortured and gang-raped the physiotherapist, have shown no remorse. Investigators said that they behaved like hardened criminals.

"None of the accused have shown even an iota of remorse or any kind of regret for what they have done," a senior police officer interrogating the four men told IANS.

Observing their demeanour, police said they would verify whether the men have criminal records.

"Their involvement in cases not yet reported might surface," another investigator said.

Meanwhile, doctors said that she was conscious and in a stable condition but warned that  there was still danger of infection setting in during the next few days.

"She continues to be in stable condition," B.D. Athani, medical superintendent of the Safdarjung Hospital, told reporters.

"She is alert, conscious. She is making an attempt to breathe on her own. Our immediate and foremost aim is to get her out of ICU and get her stable," said Athani, who was flanked by a panel of six doctors who are treating the girl.

"She is stable but there is still a danger of her catching infection," he said.

Doctors have been admiring the young woman's fortitude and grit, despite the intense pain: "Being a medical student, she understands the treatment process and has been cooperating with the hospital staff. Her lower vagina has been badly damaged, but her upper vagina is not so affected. If she comes out of this crucial phase, she could lead a normal life," the doctor told IANS, on condition of anonymity.

According to a doctor, who is treating her, they have a "extremely unusual case".

"For the past 30 years as a surgeon..I have not seen such a grave injury to the intestines in any case of sexual assault. It is extremely unusual and rare.. none of us has seen such a case," Sunil Jain, a specialist in general surgery at Safdarjung Hospital, said.

Calling her a "brave girl," Athani said she had withstood a lot of suffering in the last few days and had undergone two surgeries since her admission Sunday night.

"She is fighting it out. The girl has an immense fighting spirit ..needless to say, because today (Thursday) is the fourth day ..she has sustained such grievous injury and remained alert and withstood it all," Athani said.

Doctors from the adjoining All India Instititute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are also providing assistance.

The doctor also said that the young woman knew that her torture and gang-rape by six men in a moving bus had left the nation shocked, and that there has been a massive outpouring of grief and expressions of support.

Delhi police official said the horrific incident took place when the young couple reached Munirka in south Delhi around 9.15 pm Sunday after watching a movie and boarded a stationary bus to go to Dwarka.

Around six men in the bus, including the driver and conductor, allegedly misbehaved with the woman. When the boyfriend intervened, he was brutally beaten up with iron rods. She was then sexually assaulted in the moving bus.

The girl and her boyfriend were then thrown out of the bus under Mahipalpur flyover in south Delhi. The assailants also snatched their mobiles.

A toll plaza patrol vehicle spotted the girl and her friend and called the police, who took them to Safdarjung Hospital around 12.15 a.m. Monday.

The woman's ordeal, a police officer said, lasted for 45 long minutes.

Delhi gang-rape: Victim's parents want rapists hanged

New Delhi: Even as the nation demands strictest possible action against the accused in the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old para-medic student, her family has said that they want the rapists to be hanged.

Union Minister Krishna Tirath on Wednesday visited the family of the victim in the Safdarjang Hospital.

The minister reportedly said that the victim’s parents want death punishment for the rapists.

Even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today described the gang-rape of the student as “a heinous crime,” adding it was “very upsetting”.

The PM also directed the Home Minister to ensure culprits are brought to book and such incidents are not repeated.

The 23-year-old girl meanwhile continues to battle for her life at the Safdarjung Hospital. Doctors today performed a second surgery on her.

The biggest problem being faced by the doctors is said to be septicaemia - a systemic infection, usually caused by bacteria of various types contaminating a person’s blood. In the girl’s case, Septicemia may have been caused due to the cuts she was inflicted with becoming infected.

The next 24 hours are critical for the girl; if she pulls through, her chances of survival will improve.

Two of the four accused, meanwhile, confessed to the crime before a court.

Vinay Sharma confessed to beating up the victim’s male friend and demanded that he be hanged.

“I have committed a horrible crime. I had beaten up the boy. I should be hanged,” Vinay told the court.

Pawan also said he had committed a “heinous act” and was ashamed of himself, but refused to undergo an identification parade.

The third accused, Mukesh – who is the brother of main accused Ram Singh – did not confess to the crime but agreed to undergo identification test by the victim's male friend.

Ram Singh, the driver of the bus, was yesterday sent to five-day police custody.
